Hawks Place 10th at A-10 Championships

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The men's tennis team took tenth at the 2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Championships, held on the campus of Duquesne University. SJU, the 10 seed, took on seventh seeded Dayton in the first round, losing 5-0. SJU stayed alive, knocking out cross-town rival La Salle, 6-1, in the first round of the losers bracket. Shawn Farrokh defeated Ryan Gargulio 6-3, 6-2 in #1 singles while Damon Dennin beat Matt Heyse 6-1, 6-2 in #2 singles. John McLaughlin (#6) won by default while Pat Mulvaney (#4) and Mike Nicoletti (#5) both posted wins. In the second round of the losers bracket, SJU fell to ninth seeded Fordham, 4-0. St. Bonaveture captured the overall crown with Massachusetts, Xavier, George Washington and Duquesne rounding out the top five.
