May 12, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's senior Phil Bayliss has been named to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Academic Team in voting conducted by the conference sports information directors. The Atlantic 10 announced the All-Academic Team on Tuesday in conjunction with the announcement of the All-Conference First and Second Teams.

Bayliss achieved five wins at the second singles flight and eight victories in the first doubles flight this season. He co-captained the team to eighth place at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships and earned wins in both singles and doubles in the first round victory over Dayton.

A management major, the native of York, Pa. achieved the highest grade-point average of all upperclassmen on the SJU tennis squad. Bayliss is a member of both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's and Saint Joseph's Athletic Director's Honor Rolls and ranks ninth in SJU history with 40 career singles victories.
