Xavier Clips Hawks in Key A-10 Game, 4-3
April 4, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - Xavier picked up a pair of pivotal three-set victories and edged Saint Joseph's at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center in a key match for Atlantic 10 seeding, 4-3. The Hawks claimed the doubles point and also received singles wins from Chris Spencer and Phil Bayliss. Things started out well for the Crimson and Gray as they swept the doubles competition. Jimmy Holland and Antonio Aniello won 8-5 at #1, A.J. Garabedian and Bayliss were 8-4 victors at #2 and Spencer and Pat Adams teamed for an 8-6 win at #3. XU fought back to tie the match at 2-2 as Jeremy Miller clipped Holland at #1 7-5. 6-3 and Ra-ees Ismail downed Adams at #4, 6-3, 6-0, while Spencer posted a win at #3, 6-2, 6-2. Three three set matches swung the match in favor of the Musketeers. Bayliss won a thriller to give SJU its third win at #5, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, but Garabedian was clipped at number two, despite winning the opening set, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. XU then seized teh win when Aniello dropped a three-setter 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
