MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team earned a thrilling 5-2 victory over the crosstown rival Villanova Wildcats on Thursday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. Seniors Michael Stauble and Lucho Perez-Abreu each scored wins in their singles and doubles matches. Stauble was a winner in both the top singles and doubles flights, defeating Alex Leeser, 6-1, 6-2. He also teamed up with senior Matt Prusack for the 8-5 win over Leeser and David Shaheen. Perez-Abreu took down John Magliano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, at number-six singles after partnering with sophomore Peter Cognetti at second doubles for another 8-5 win. Freshman Alex Veronis won in the second singles flight, dropping Connor Witty, 6-1, 7-5, while senior Nick Tuxen earned the other Hawk point, defeating Alex Hanno, 6-4, 6-2, in the fourth flight. The Hawks are back in action Friday with a match against Duquesne, and will take on NJIT on Sunday as well. Saint Joseph's 5, Villanova 2
