Men's Tennis Tops Lafayette, 4-1

EASTON, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, topping Lafayette, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Northwood Club. The Hawks got on the board with a victory in the doubles competition. Despite dropping the opening set, the SJU duo of Peter Cognetti and Lucho Perez-Abreu came through with victories in the final two sets to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over the Leopards' Justin Haar and Scott Gelbman. Needing just two wins in the four singles matches, the Hawks did one better, posting wins at the first, second and fourth flights. Michael Stauble was a 6-4, 7-6 winner at No.1 singles, with Alex Veronis posting a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles for the third point of the match for SJU. Tommy Gates added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles to cap the day for the Hawks and improve them to 1-6. Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday when the Hawks host Fairfield at 6 p.m. at the Upper Dublim Sports Complex. Doubles Singles
