Baker Receives Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Honors
Oct. 22, 2007
Freshman Colin Baker (North Wales, Pa./La Salle College HS) won his second Atlantic 10 weekly award Monday. Baker scored the game-winning goal Sunday to defeat Richmond, 1-0 to earn Rookie of the Week. The win sent Saint Joseph's into first place in the A-10 and pushed the Hawks to a perfect 3-0-0 conference record for the first time since 1993. Baker scored in the 85th minute on a Travis Gast free kick. Gast sent the ball from approximately 40 yards out to the far post where Baker headed it over the Richmond goalkeeper into the net. The win over the Spiders was the first in Hawk history (1-5-0), and assured Saint Joseph's of first place in the A-10 after Massachusetts lost at Charlotte. On Sept. 3, Baker received A-10 Rookie of the Week after posting a hat trick at Coastal Carolina in SJU's 3-2 victory. In that game, Baker scored each goal with two assists apiece from Greg Dusing, Gast, and Michael McInaw. Baker leads the team with four goals and 12 points. Baker's performance continued the Hawks impressive conference play. SJU is just 1-7-1 out of conference, but have won all three games in the A-10 in one-goal fashion. Saint Joseph's is next in action at Dayton on Friday, October 26 before traveling to Cincinnati to play Xavier on Sunday, October 28.
