Bryan Benedict Named Soccer Seven Co-Player of the Week

Sept. 18, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore Bryan Benedict has been named the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Co-Player of the Week. He shares the award with Mike Klein of Penn.

Benedict, from Annandale, VA (Bishop O'Connell HS), turned in a top-notch performance in goal for the Hawks, in his first career start vs. Princeton in the Penn Soccer Classic. He made a career-best nine saves to preserve SJU's 1-1 double overtime tie with the Tigers. Included in that were two diving saves in the first overtime period.

Benedict, who redshirted 2005, saw his first collegiate action on Friday in the Hawks' 4-0 loss to Penn. He made three saves in the second half.

The tie with Princeton ended an 11-game winless streak for the Hawks, dating back to last year.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday, September 23, hosting La Salle at 7:00 p.m.
