PENN DEFEATS SAINT JOSEPH'S, 7-1, IN MEN'S SOCCER

PHILADELPHIA (11/5/03) – Matthew Waddell had a hat trick and added an assist as Pennsylvania defeated Saint Joseph's, 7-1, in Philadelphia Soccer Seven action in rainy conditions in Philadelphia. The win improves Penn to 5-7-2, (3-0-1 Soccer Seven) while the Hawks fall to 7-11-1 (1-3-0). By the 25th minute of the first half, Penn had a 3-0 lead, with one goal from Stephen Kroculick and two from Waddell. Saint Joseph's Pat Mondile (Mullica Hill, N.J./Salesianum) broke the ice for the Hawks with a goal at 29:07, assisted by freshman Joe Grayauskie (Medford, N.J./Shawnee). Penn scored the rest of its goals in the final 18 minutes with two from David Maier, another from Kroculick and the third goal from Waddell (at 75:21). Penn outshot the Hawks, 21-6. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Dougher (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) made 10 saves for SJU. Daniel Cepero had two stops for the Quakers. Saint Joseph's wraps up its season on Saturday evening, November 8, when it hosts Atlantic 10 and Soccer Seven rival Temple at 7:00 p.m.
