JAMES, TAKATS LEAD HAWKS OVER ST. BONAVENTURE, 3-2, IN 2 OT
ST. BONAVENTURE, NY (10/19/03)– Senior Matt James (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had two goals and freshman Andrew Takats (Newark, Del./Archmere Acad.) scored the gamewinner in the 108th minute to lift Saint Joseph's to a 3-2 double overtime win over St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action at McGraw-Jennings Field. The Hawks improve to 7-7 and 4-2 in the A-10, while the Bonnies remain winless in conference play (0-6) and 1-12-1 overall.
St. Bonaventure got on the board first in the match as senior Jahmal Cameron tallied his first of two goals in the 14th minute.
The Hawks tied it as James scored in the 28th minute after a shot rebounded off Bonnies' goalkeeper Sean Eyde. Takats and Adam Duffy (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) were credited with the assists.
Cameron again struck for the home team, scoring in the 38th minute to give SBU a 2-1 edge at halftime, after a pass from Kevin Omukhua.
James scored the equalizer 12 minutes into the second half off a pass from Scott Cunningham (Nutley, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) for his second goal of the game.
St. Bonaventure outshot the Hawks, 16-12, but SJU goalkeeper Kevin Dougher (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) made nine saves on the day. Eyde stopped two for the Bonnies.
The Hawks return home to host George Washington on Friday evening, October 24 at Finnesey Field.
