Men's Soccer Kicks Off 2006 at UMBC Tournament

Aug. 24, 2006

BALTIMORE, MD - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team will open the 2006 season on Friday, August 25, when it plays the host team at the UMBC Tournament. Game time is 3:30 pm against UMBC.

The Hawks will continue tournament play on Sunday when they take on Navy at noon.

Saint Joseph's will put a veteran squad on the field this year, returning 10 starters, as the Hawks look to improve on last year's 2-14-1 record. Head coach Tom Turner enters his 20th season with the Hawks.

SJU's 10 players who scored points last year all return, including leading scorer Michael McInaw. The sophomore had six goals in his rookie season.

Seniors Joe Grayauskie and John Creed are serving as captains, while Dean Niedosik and Chris Powell have been designated as assistant captains.

The Hawks open the home slate early this season, hosting Soccer Seven rival Villanova on Wednesday, August 30 at Finnesey Field at 7 p.m.
