GW Tops Men's Soccer, 5-0
Oct. 19, 2008 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- GW scored two goals in the first 16 minutes en route to a 5-0 win over the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The early momentum went the Colonials' way after a goal by Erick Perez-Segnini in the 13th minute. Just three minutes later, SJU goalkeeper Bryan Benedict (one save) was sent off for a foul inside the penalty area. Dave Leon's penalty kick was successful to put GW up 2-0. The Colonials would put a goal by Joe Bodnar (five saves) with just 49 seconds remaining in the half for a 3-0 advantage. Saint Joseph's (3-5-2, 0-3-1 Atlantic 10) applied some pressure in the second stanza as Colin Baker hit the crossbar and had three other shots stopped by the GW goalkeeping. George Washington (6-4-2, 2-1-1Atlantic 10) added two more goals to their total for the eventual 5-0 final scoreline.
The Hawks return to the Philadelphia area as they take on city-rival Temple on Saturday at TU's Ambler Field.
