Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's senior Ian Kane scored his first goal of the season in the final minute of the second overtime as the Hawks' men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to stun the George Washington Colonials, 2-1, on Friday night at Finnesey Field.

Saint Joseph's (3-7-1, 2-0-0 Atlantic 10) had six shots in the second overtime period, but Kane, after hitting the post earlier, connected from 30 yards out when George Washington goalkeeper Matt Scheer was caught out of his net trying to play the ball with 17 seconds left on the clock. Kane won the race to the ball and sent a blast into the lower left corner of the net.

George Washington (7-5-0, 1-1-0 Atlantic 10) got on the board first on a goal by Abimbalo Pedro in the eighth minute. On a throw-in by Matt Davis, Pedro headed the ball past Hawk goalkeeper Bryan Benedict. The goal was his fifth of the season.

The Hawks responded early in the second half, as Patrick Duddy tallied his third goal in as many games in the 61st minute. Craig Olsen fired a shot that was saved by Scheer before the ball deflected off the post to Duddy, who headed it into the bottom left corner for his third goal of the year.

The teams remained tied heading into overtime. The Hawks carried the pace of play in the extra frames, culminating in Kane's game-winning goal in the 110th minute.

Saint Joseph's returns to Finnesey Field on Sunday for an Atlantic 10 tilt with the Richmond Spiders. Kick off is slated for noon.
