Oct. 10, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.—The Saint Joseph’s men’s soccer team couldn’t hold a second half lead as the St. Bonaventure Bonnies tied the Hawks, 1-1, in double overtime on Friday afternoon. Michael McInaw tallied his first goal of the season with Bryan Benedict making five stops in the Atlantic 10 opener for both squads. After a scoreless first half in which the Bonnies out shot and out played the Hawks, out shooting SJU, 8-0 as well as taking 11 corners to one for Saint Joseph’s (3-2-2, 0-0-1 Atlantic10). The Hawk defense stood tall as Benedict made four saves and another shot was saved off the line for the clean sheet in the first stanza. The second half saw Saint Joseph’s come alive, eventually breaking through in the 67th minute when McInaw’s header found the far post for the go-ahead goal off a Travis Gast assist. It was the first goal for McInaw and the first assist for Gast in the 2008 campaign. St. Bonaventure (2-2-4, 0-0-1 Atlantic 10) fought back as Fabrizio Savarino received a Scott Howard cross for the equalizer in the 78th minute. For Savarino, it was his second tally of the season.
