Men's Soccer Shut Out by Furman, 6-0, in Opener
Aug. 31, 2007 CONWAY, SC - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team was shut out by Furman, 6-0, in the season opener at the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational Friday afternoon. Furman wasted little time taking control, scoring at just 3:20 into the match, with another goal 27 seconds later. Michael Erwood capped the first half scoring at 36:20 to increase the lead to 3-0. Furman scored again early in the second half and then added another in the 53rd minute. The Paladins ended the scoring in the 61st minute. Furman held a 20-6 edge in shots, but junior Bryan Benedict made six saves for the Hawks. The Hawks return to action playing host Coastal Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m.
