HAWK MEN GET GOLD FROM FROSH 8 AND VARSITY 4 AT FROSTBITE

PHILADELPHIA (11/08/03) - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team capped a stong fall campaign at the Frostbite Regatta over the weekend. Both Men's Freshman 8s won their respective races and the Varsity 4 also claimed victory. The top Freshman 8 and Marietta made it a 2 boat boat race early separating from the rest of the pack. By the island the Hawks buckled down and overpowered Marietta to take the gold. The Varsity 8 had a fantastic race, displaying great speed as the race transformed into a three boat race between SJU, Temple and Marietta. Marietta never recovered from a crab at the 1000m mark and only the Hawks and the Owls had a shot at gold down the stretch. The Hawks finished strong, but crossed the line just a couple seats open behind Temple. The VARSITY 4 also won a Gold medal, while the two LIGTHWEIGHT 8s finished 2nd and 3rd in their race, respectively.
