FRESHMEN BOATS TAKE GOLD AND SILVER AT JESUIT INVITATIONAL

PENNSAUKEN, NJ (3/22/03) - Paced by a gold medal from its Freshman 8 and a silver from its Second Freshman 8 the Saint Joseph's men's rowing team kicked off the spring with a strong effort at the fourth annual Jesuit Invitational held on the Cooper River. SJU took the water to square off against Jesuit rivals Boston College, Fairfield, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross, and Loyola. All four Hawk boats that raced medaled for the Crimson and Gray. The Frosh 8 outdistanced the six team field, besting second place Georgetown by :13 seconds. The Second Freshman 8 was edged out for the top spot by just :04 seconds in their race. In addition to the freshman boats, SJU's Varsity 8 and Lightweight 8s both earned bronze medals. The Lightweights were topped by Georgetown and Boston College, while the Hoyas and Holy Cross topped the Varsity 8.
