Hawk Men Victorious in Final Fall Race

PHILADELPHIA - The SJU Freshmen Men put on a dominating performance at the Frostbite Regatta this past Saturday on the Schuylkill River. Boating three 4s and two 8s the Hawks took home gold in four of the five races they entered. "I was really pleased with the progress of our freshmen this fall", commented third-year freshmen coach Dan Goettner '01. "I was especially pleased by the "B' boats performance after not being able to row the 8 all week due to class schedules and injuries. We understroked all the competition and still won. The outlook for the Spring is very good." In the freshmen college 4 events, SJU B and SJU C won their respective races over crews from Lehigh, Delaware, Lafayette, La Salle, New York Maritime, Loyola, Stony Brook and Scranton. The SJU A boat beat crews from Temple, NY Maritime, Marietta, and Wilkes but finished second to the top Loyola shell. In the Freshmen 8 events, the SJU A boat of Cox- Mark DelGuercio, 8 - Jordan Marwin, 7- Kevin Millazo, 6- Larry Maher, 5- Jack Drewniak, 4- Michael Wingrove, 3- Michael Fath, 2- James Thornton, and Bow- Kevin Connors defeated Delaware, Ithaca, Lehigh, Temple, and Binghamton by several lengths. The SJU B shell of Cox- Nora Tramontina, 8- Michael Boone, 7- Kevin Burrows, 6- John Schneckenburger, 5- James O'Donoghue, 4 - Sean Riley, 3- Andrew Masterson, 2- Brett Cavanaugh, and Bow - Dan McCann defeated their counterparts from Lehigh, Delaware, Ithaca, and Temple by open water.
