Men's Rowing Second Varsity 8 Takes Bronze at Dad Vails
May 12, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team advance three boats to the Grand Finals at the 70th Dad Vail Regatta, with the Second Varsity 8 earning a bronze medal. The Second Varsity 8 had a tremendous series of races, advancing easily through the heats and semifinals, but the final became a tight race for the medals. At the 1000m mark it was five boats across going stroke for stroke. At the island, Grand Valley made a move to take the lead leaving the Hawks, Colgate and Delaware fighting for the medals. The Hawks finished barely a second behind Colgate for the bronze for a hard fought, well-deserved medal. The Lightweight 4 advanced easily from the heats and again thru the semifinals to get a shot in the Grand Final. In the final, the Hawks made some great moves to stay in the tight race, finishing sixth. The Freshman Lightweight 8 also rowed a strong final finishing fourth, just out of the medals. After very solid wins in the heats the Freshman 8 and Varsity 8 were
unable to advance from the semifinals.
