Men's Lightweight Eight Medals at the Murphy Cup

March 31, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing Lightweight Eight earned a gold medal in the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill River, while the Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in the Grand Final.

The Hawks took control from the start to defeated Delaware and Penn in their first race as a lightweight crew this season.

The Varsity Eight also had a strong row, finishing third in the Petit Finals. The Varsity Four and Lightweight Four both advanced out of the heats with very strong performances, but the Lightweight Four was the only one to row in the final since the crew had been doubling up and the races were too close together.

The Hawks continue to make progress since the Jesuit Invitational and will look to add more speed in a dual meet with George Washington at home on Saturday, April 4.
