HAWKS FALL TO DELAWARE
Philadelphia, PA - Delaware got five goals and four assists
from senior Jason Lavey, as the Blue Hens defeated St.
Joseph's, 14-9, in men's lacrosse.
Randy McNeill netted six goals for the Hawks while junior
Bert Whitelock dished out four assists.
The two teams traded goals for the first 15 minutes with
Delaware taking a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Blue Hens jumped out to a 4-2 lead but the Hawks
responded with two quick goals to tie the game with 10:25
left in the first half. Delaware answered with two goals to
take a 6-4 lead at the half.
Delaware (2-6) jumped out to an 8-5 lead with 5:45
remaining in the third, but SJU took advantage of a
Delaware penalty cutting the lead to 8-6 at the 2:14 mark.
Lavey scored his third of the game with 1:30 remaining in
the third to extend Delaware's lead back to three at 9-6.
SJU (0-6) rallied back as McNeill tallied twice in a 40 second span to cut the lead to 9-8
but the Blue Hens answered to extend their lead back to two. Once again, the Hawks
responded as McNeill netted his sixth of the game to make the score 10-9 with 7:53
remaining in the game. But Delaware proved to be too much for the Hawks as they scored
four unanswered goals to seal the 14-9 victory.
SJU goalkeeper Nick Leopard played strong in goal making 13 saves while Delaware's
David Mullen recorded 10 saves.
