HAWKS FALL TO LAFAYETTE, 10-6

Philadelphia, PA (3/22/01) - Defending MAAC Champion St. Joseph's dropped its fourth straight to open the 2001 season, falling to visiting Lafayette, 10-6. Morgan Battle led al scorers with four goals while teammate Drew Stotler dished four assists to propel the Leopards to the win. Junior Bert Whitelock led SJU with two goals and an assist. Matt Durkin, Alex Heidenberger, Kevin Callahan and Chris Spay each added a goal for the Hawks. The Hawks, 0-4, trailed 6-2 with 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter before goals by Spay and Whitelock cut the margin to two goals with 9:15 on the clock. The Leopards, 1-3, responded with three straight tallies, two by Battle, to break the contest open. SJU did not score again until 5:02 remained in the game, a 14 minute drought. The Hawks next host Drexel on Saturday night.
