Saint Joseph's Alum CJ O'Connell to Compete in the World Amateur Golf Championship
Sept. 19, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - Former Saint Joseph's golfer CJ O'Connell '02 will represent the United States Virgin Islands at the upcoming World Amateur Team Championship October 26-29 at De Zalze Golf Club and Stellenbosch Golf Club in Stellenbosch, South Africa. A four-year letterwinner at Saint Joseph's, O'Connell is one of three golfers to represent the US Virgin Islands. As a Hawk, O'Connell posted a career average of 80.1 strokes-per-round and served as team captain his senior year. Conducted by the International Golf Federation, the World Amateur Team Championship is an international team golf event for the Eisenhower Trophy, held biennially around the world. This is the first time the championships will be played in Africa, with a record 75 teams competing in the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships to be held near Cape Town, South Africa.
