HAWK LINKSTERS PLACE FIFTH AT A-10 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • Final Day Team Results MIDDLETOWN, RI (5/02/04) - With senior Brian McDermott and sophomore Sean Seese leading the way, the Saint Joseph's golf team placed fifth at the the 2004 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship at Newport National Golf Club. SJU (313, 307, 303 - 923) was in seventh place entering the final round of play. Rhode Island edged Xavier by one stroke to win the team title. McDermott (78, 77, 72 - 227) finished out his collegiate career with a flourish carding a par 72 on the final day of competition and tying for 14th place. Seese, an all-conference performer in 2003, shot 75, 80, 73 for a three-round total of 228 to tie for 16th. Rounding out the lineup were freshmen Chris Reedman (80, 76, 78 - 234) in 31st place, Jim Robertson (80, 78, 80 - 238) in 41st place and Ryan McCarty (83, 76, 82 - 241) in 47th place overall. The defending runners-up, SJU was without the services of 2003 A-10 Performer and Rookie of the Year Billy Stewart. The Rams won the tournament with a three-round total of 883 (294-294-295) and defending champion Xavier finished at 884 (297-290-297). Richmond shot a 2-under 286 on the final day to finish third with an 887 (299-302-286). Fordham’s Paul Dillon was named the conference’s Coach of the Year after leading his team to a fourth-place finish, its highest finish ever in the Atlantic 10. Xavier’s Jason Kokrak was named the Most Outstanding Rookie for his third place finish.
