LINKSTERS FINISH 16TH AT RAIN-SHORTENED XAVIER INVITATIONAL
MASON, OH (10/14/03) - The Saint Joseph's men's golf team finished in 16th place in the 20 team field at the competetive Xavier Provident Invitational at the Golf Center at Kings Island. The event ended after 36 holes of 54 holes were completed due to inclement weather. Sophomore Sean Seese, who shot a one-over par 143 (72, 71) on the first day, was the Hawks' top individual, finishing in 31st place.
Seese was followed by classmate Billy Stewart (74, 71 - 145) in 42nd place. Seniors Brian McDermott (72, 75 - 147) and Bill Devlin (75, 76 - 151) rounded out the team's scorers standing tied for 50th and 79th overall. Freshman Chris Reedman (82, 79 - 161) rounded out the SJU quintet.
Indiana won the event, shooting rounds of 283 and 277 on Monday for an overall score of 8-under 560. That tally set a new tournament record, eclipsing the old mark of 562 that was shot by Western Kentucky in 2001.
IU's Jeff Overton, who has won all three tournaments he has played in this fall, captured the individual title, carding a 12-under 130 after shooting a pair of 65s on Monday. His score was also a tournament record, besting the old mark of 133 that Xavier's Miles Maillet set in 2002.
Marquette finished in second with a score of 561. MU was bolstered in the morning by a tournament record tying round of 63 by freshman Michael Bielawski.
Bowling Green placed third at 563. The Falcons equaled a tournament record in the morning round with a 276, but cooled off with a 287 in the afternoon.
