SEESE HELPS HAWKS PLACE NINTH AT TEMPLE

MOOSIC, PA (10/04/03) - Sophomore Sean Seese compiled a two-day total of 153 (75, 78) to tie for tenth place overall and lead the Saint Joseph's men's golf team to a ninth place finish at the Temple Invitational played at Glenmaura National Golf Club. The Hawks shot a 322 on the first day of play and 317 on the second for a two-day total of 639. In addition to Seese, sophomore Billy Stewart (81, 78) and freshman Chris Reedman (80, 79) tied for 24th place, carding identical scores of 159 for the two round event. Freshman Jim Robertson (86, 82 - 168) and senior Brian McDermott (88, 86 - 174) rounded out SJU's five man contingent, placing 49th and 60th. Penn State, with a two-round 597 (293-304), captured the team title. The Nittany Lions out-distanced second place Rutgers (296, 311-607) by ten strokes on the par 71, 6,693-yard course. Rutgers' Brent Pitman, who entered the final round tied for third place, shot a 72 on Saturday to take home the individual title with a one-over-par 143 (71-72). Thirteen universities hit the links Friday and Saturday on the Michael Hurzden-designed course that plays host to the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic of the Nationwide Tour. Fifteen teams were originally scheduled to participate in the Invitational but Maryland and Pennsylvania withdrew from the tournament.
