HAWKS PLACE ELEVENTH AT NAVY INVITE
ANNAPOLIS, MD (09/08/02) - The Saint Joseph's University men's golf team opened the 2002-03 season with an eleventh place finish at the Navy Fall Invitational held at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club. SJU's five man team shot a 307 on day one and a 303 on Sunday.
Freshmen Billy Stewart and Sean Seese led the way for the Crimson and Gray. The highly-rated newcomers were SJU's top two finishers with Stewart (71, 74 - 145) tying for 13th place and Seese (78, 76 - 154) placing 40th overall.
Rounding out the five man contingent for St. Joe's were juniors Brian McDermott (80, 75 - 155, T-43rd) and Tom Spano (79, 86 - 165, T-68th), along with senior Mike Bosica (79, 78 - 157, T-54th).
Winthrop held off a charging Navy team to capture the event. Winthrop turned in a 7-over par 575, while Navy and Towson tied for second place with each team posting a 9-over par 577 score.
SJU returns to the links on September 21-22 at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
