SJU PLACES 15th AT COLONIAL INTERCOLLEGIATE

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (03/26/02) - Competing in its first event of the spring season, the Saint Joseph's University golf team placed 15th in the 18 team field at the Colonial Intercollegiate Invitational at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. Juniors Paul Polinsky (79, 75 - 154) and Jeff Huntzinger (77, 77- 154) led the team and tied for 38th place overall. Ater shooting a 324 on the first day of competition, SJU made a sixteen shot improvement on day two, tallying a 308. In addition to Polinsky and Huntzinger, sophomore Brian McDermott and seniors J.P. Glynn and C.J. O'Connell rounded out the Hawks top five. Glynn recovered from an 89 on the opening day of play to score team low round of 74 on day two. He finished with a 163 to tie for 75th place. O'Connell (83, 83 - 166) and McDermott (85, 82 - 167) placed 81st and 84th, respectively. Overall, Elon University (582) came back from a first round showing of third to take the team title, while the host William & Mary (585) took second, edging out first round leader James Madison (589) which placed third. The Hawks next hit the links at the George Washington Invitational on March 31 and April 1.
