HAWKS RECORD BEST FINISH SINCE 1998, AT BINGHAMTON INVITE
ENDICOTT, NY (10/22/01) - The Saint Joseph's University men's golf team placed second (596) at the Binghamton Invitational this weekend, just one stroke shy of a win. This is the best finish for SJU in four years after they tied for second place at the Army invitational in 1998.
Saint Joseph's shot a 292 the first day after sophomore Brian McDermott led the way shooting a one-under par, 71, for the Hawks. SJU maintained a four shot lead as they entered the final round of tournament play, but could not hold on as St. Bonaventure made up five strokes to steal the win. Juniors Paul Polinsky (73, 75 - 148) and Jeff Huntzinger (72, 76- 148,), tied for 6th place overall while McDermott (71, 78 -T 9th), and seniors J.P. Glynn (76, 76 -T 19th) and C.J. O'Connell (76, 77 T 21st) rounded out the Hawks top five.
Following closely behind Saint Joseph's was Lehigh (597), Binghamton (605) and Colgate (606).
The Hawks hit the links one final time before concluding their fall season. SJU heads to the Georgetown Invitational, Sunday October 28. Play continues through Monday.
