MOOSIC, PA (10/06/01) - Led by sophomore Brian McDermott placed eighth in the 14 team field at the Temple University Invitational. The event was played at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa. SJU's five man team combined to shoot a 306 on day one, but slumped on day two tallying a 318 in inclement weather. Overall, the squad finished with a two-day total of 624 McDermott was the lowest scoring Hawk during the tournament, finishing in a tie for 19th place. McDermott shot 73 on the first day and 80 on the second day to notch a two-day total of 153. It was the third straight event that McDermott led the team. In addition to McDermott, rounding out the Hawk lineup were seniors C.J. O'Connell (84, 83 - 167, T-59th) and J.P.Glynn (79, 79 - 158, T-34th), as well as juniors Paul Polinsky (74, 80 - 154, T-23rd) and Jeff Huntzinger (80, 79 - 159, T-40th). SJU placed eleventh at the Temple Invitational in 2000. First round leader Maryland (589) hung on for a one stroke victory over Temple (590). SJU is now off for two weeks, until the October 20-21, when the squad hits the links at the Binghamton Invitational.
