TEAM EFFORT GIVES SJU SIXTH PLACE FINISH AT ST. BONA

OLEAN, NY (09/24/01) - The Saint Joseph's University men's golf team led by the consistent play of sophomore Brian McDermott placed sixth in the 17 team field at the St. Bonaventure Invitational. The event was played at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y. SJU's five man team shot a 303 on day one and a 295 on Monday to finish with a 598overall. McDermott was the lowest scoring Hawk during the tournament, finishing in a tie for 20th place overall. McDermott shot 76 on the first day and 72 on the second day to notch a two-day total of 148. It was the second straight event that McDermott led the team. In addition to McDermott, rounding out the Hawk lineup were juniors Paul Polinsky (75, 75 - 150, T-27th) and Jeff Huntzinger (75, 79 - 154, T-50th), as well as seniors C.J. O'Connell (77, 75 - 152, T-35th) and J.P. Glynn (80, 73 - 153, T-43rd). A sixth Hawk, junior Mike Bosica, competed unattached and tied for 43rd place with a two-day score of 153. SJU placed fifth at the St. Bonaventure Invitational in 2000 with a score of 599. The host Bonnies won the event with a score of 582. Duquesne (589), St. Francis, Pa. (590), Drexel (594) and Siena (595) rounde dout the top five. SBU's Jay Lindell took home the individual title with a 70, 71 - 141 (+1). Next week, the Hawks will take to the links on Monday to compete in the George Washington/Rehoboth Beach Invitational.
