LINKSTERS PLACE SIXTH AT A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. (04/22/01) - The Hawk golf team placed sixth overall at the Atlantic 10 Golf Championships held at Penn National Golf Club. Sophomore Jeff Huntzinger led SJU, placing 21st overall. The Hawks opened the tournament with a 308 and stood tied for seventh place after the first day. Huntzinger shot a team-low 73 on the first day to lead SJU. A second day performance of 297 placed SJU in seventh place by themselves. All five Hawks finished with sub-80 rounds and freshmen Paul Polinsky and Brian McDermott shot 73s to pace the team. On day three, the SJU linksters shot 306 to move ahead of Duquesne and finish in sixth place overall. Huntzinger, who placed 21st overall, finished with a three round total of 226. He was supported by Polinsky's 27th place effort at 228. Rounding out the Hawk lineup were juniors J.P. Glynn and C.J. O'Connell. Glynn, along with McDermott, tied for 35th place overall with identical scores of 233. O'Connell placed 29th, shooting 231 for the tournament. Xavier captured the team title for the second straight yearwith the help of individual champion Tim Donovan. Donovan finished 19 strokes under par and nine strokes ahead of his nearest competitor. SJU returns to the links next weekend to compete in the Rhode Invitational.
