Hawks Set to Compete at 2007 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship

May 1, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - Led by a veteran squad, the Saint Joseph's golf team will challenge for the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend, May 4-6, at the Orange County National Golf Course (par 72) in Winter Garden, Florida. Opening round begins Friday at 8 a.m.

With a squad composed of four golfers with previous championship experience, the Hawks have high expectations for the weekend after placing seventh in the field of 13 last year. Competing at the 2007 A-10 Championship for Saint Joseph's are seniors Phil Arouca, Chris Reedman, Ryan McCarty, junior Colin Corrigan and sophomore Steve Hudacek.

Having three solid performances in previous A-10 Championships, Arouca heads into the weekend as the team leader for the Hawks. Posting a team-best 75.2 strokes-per-round average this year, Arouca has finished in the top-15 in each of his A-10 appearances, earning All-Conference honors as a sophomore after finishing tied for seventh. As a senior, Arouca has earned four top-10 finishes this season and will look to improve upon his 15th-place finish (216) at last year's conference championship.

Making his third appearance in the A-10 championships, McCarty finished 49th at last year's conference title match. Averaging 78.8 strokes-per-round over 16 rounds this season, McCarty posted a season-best 29th-place finish at the Princeton Invitational in April.

Compiling his best season in the Crimson and Gray, Reedman has excelled as a co-captain in 2006-07. Having posted two top-10 finishes, Reedman has posted a career-best 75.6 strokes-per-round-average. Prior to this year, Reedman's best individual finish came at the 2005 A-10 Championship as he tied for 17th.

Participating in the A-10 Championship as both a freshman and a sophomore, Corrigan enters his third conference title match averaging 77.7 strokes-per-round average. As a rookie, Corrigan tied for 51st at the 2005 A-10 Championship, while he moved up to a 49th-place finish last year.

Playing in a career-best 18 rounds this season, Hudacek has made a leap from his rookie campaign. After averaging 79.3 strokes-per-round as a freshman, Hudacek has lowered his average to 76.5 strokes-per-round over 18 rounds this year heading into his first A-10 Championship.
