Hawks Place Third at Navy Golf Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Saint Joseph's men's golf team started out the 2008-09 season on a strong note this weekend as the Hawks placed third in the 16-team field of the 15th Annual Navy Fall Invitational. As a team, Saint Joseph's carded a two-round score of 294-292/586 at the par-71 United States Naval Academy Golf Course. The Hawks finished just five strokes back of second-place Delaware (581) and 14-strokes behind tournament winner George Washington (572). Individually, freshman Jim Bea made a statement in his first collegiate competition for SJU, placing seventh overall with a two-round score of 72-71/143. Hawks' senior Steve Hudacek tied for 15th place with a score of 74-73/147, while junior Bill Macknis, and sophomore Josh Webb tied for 24th with rounds of 74-75/149. Junior Zach Smith rounded out the five-man squad one stroke behind with a two-day score of 77-73/150. George Washington's Lewis Sturdy earned medalist honors with a score of 68-70/138. Saint Joseph's returns to action at the Adams Cup September 22-23.
