Golf Team Ties for Seventh at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Saint Joseph's golf team tied for seventh in the 17-team field at the Navy Fall Invitational this weekend. Saint Joseph's sophomore Jimmy Bea tied for sixth individually at the season-opening tournament.

As a team, the Hawks carded a two-round score of 291-301 at the par-71 Naval Academy Golf Course. Northwestern (552) earned the team title by 14 strokes over second-place Navy (566).

Last year's leader in scoring average, Bea shot a one-under-par 70-71/141 to finish tied for sixth. Senior Zach Smith carded rounds of 74-73/147 to finish tied for 24th, while sophomore Kyle Sargis tied for 51st with a score of 74-77/151. Senior Bill Macknis (shot 73-80/153 and junior Josh Webb rounded out the five-man squad with a score of 74-81/155.

Sam Chien of northwestern posted a 135 to earn medalist honors.
