Hawks Place 12th at FirstEnergy Golf Invitational

AKRON, OH - The Saint Joseph's golf team finished 12th in the field of 17 at this weekend's FirstEnergy Invitational at the Firestone Country Club (par-72).

As a team, the Hawks posted a three-round score of 308-303-299/910, finishing 42 strokes behind tournament-winning Eastern Kentucky (868).

Individually, senior Phil Arouca tied for 10th place with a three-round score of 76-71-71/218, while classmate Chris Reedman tied for 59th with a score of 77-77-77/231. Hawks' senior Ryan McCarty finished a stroke behind Reedman at 75-79-78/232 and sophomore Steve Hudacek posted a three-round score of 80-78-75/233. Junior Colin Corrigan rounded out the five-man squad, carding a score of 81-77-76/234.

Stefan Wiedergruen of Charlotte, Graham Hill of Eastern Michigan and Ben Wood of Miami (Ohio) each completed a three-round playoff to determine the individual medalist. Wood eventually prevailed after outlasting the two competitors through four additional holes.

Saint Joseph's caps its 2006-07 season next weekend, Friday through Sunday, at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
