NEWPORT NEWS, Va./PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's senior guard Carl Jones has been named the Atlantic 10 and Big 5 Player of the Week for December 31. It is Jones' first award this season and marks the fourth time in his career that he has earned a weekly honor from the conference. Jones, from Garfield Heights, Ohio, helped the Hawks snap a two-game losing streak as he scored a season-high 32 points in Saint Joseph's 96-91 win over Iona on December 28. The senior shot 12-for-19 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range, while tallying 17 points in the first half. Jones, who tied his career-high for field goals made (12) and steals (4), also surpassed 1,500 points for his career, becoming the 16th SJU player to do so. The senior is averaging a team-high 16.0 points per game and and is converting 37.9 percent from three-point range. The Hawks (6-4) visit Drexel today and Morgan State on January 5 before opening conference play by hosting Butler on January 9.
