NEWPORT NEWS, Va./PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's junior forward Ronald Roberts, Jr. was named both the Atlantic 10 and Big 5 Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Roberts averaged 15.3 points and 13.0 rebounds per game and earned a spot on the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic All-Tournament Team during his award-winning week. The Bayonne, New Jersey, native posted double-doubles in each of the Hawks' first three contests, helping lead Saint Joseph's to a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. After a 10-point, 12-rebound performance in the season-opening win over Yale, Roberts dominated at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. He scored 21 points, including 11-of-16 from the free throw line, and pulled in a career-high 16 rebounds in SJU's 79-70 overtime win over nationally ranked Notre Dame. Roberts went 5-of-6 from the line in the extra period, scoring seven of SJU's 13 points as the Hawks scored the final eight points of regulation and the first five of overtime en route to the victory. He followed up that performance with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 11 rebounds as the Hawks fell to Florida State, 73-66, in Saturday night's championship game. Roberts leads the Hawks in scoring and rebounding through the season's first three games. Saint Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday night, November 20, as Harvard comes to Hagan Arena.
