PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore Langston Galloway has been named to the All-Big 5 First Team, while junior Carl Jones and sophomore C.J. Aiken were named to the All-Big 5 Second Team, organization officials announced on Tuesday. The trio of Hawks will be honored at the Philadelphia Big 5 Banquet on April 23 in the Fox-Gittis Room at Temple's Liacouras Center. Last year's Big 5 Rookie of the Year, Galloway topped the Atlantic 10 in three-point percentage (46.6), while ranking fifth in the nation this season. The Hawks' second leading scorer with 15.5 points per game, he also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists. A 6-2 guard from Baton Rouge, La., Galloway scored double figures in 27 games and tallied 20-plus points seven times. Garnering his second-straight All-Big 5 Second Team honor, Jones led the Hawks in scoring (17.0 ppg) and steals (40) this year. Saint Joseph's top offensive threat, he posted a career-best 561 points over 33 games, and averaged a team-high 36.5 minutes per contest. A 5-11 guard from Garfield Heights, Ohio, Jones averaged 3.3 assists per game and tallied double figures in all but four contests this season, while reaching 20-plus points on 10 occasions. Aiken, who was named 2011-12 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, proved to be one of the top shot blockers in the nation this season, averaging 3.5 rejections per game. His total of 120 blocks was the second-highest single-season total in SJU history, and at one point Aiken led the nation in blocks per game before finishing fifth. The 6-9 center also averaged double figures for the Hawks, with 10.9 points per game to go with 5.1 rebounds per game. The All-Big 5 First Team consists of Galloway; Ramone Moore and Khalif Wyatt of Temple; Maalik Wayns of Villanova; and Zach Rosen of Penn.
Joining Jones and Aiken on the Second Team are Tyreek Duren, Earl Pettis and Ramon Galloway of La Salle; and Temple's Juan Fernandez. Tickets for the banquet can be reserved by contacting Al Shrier of Temple at 215-651-1821 or via email at ashrier5@temple.edu. |
