HAWKS AND WILDCATS BATTLE TO A 2-2 TIE

NORRISTOWN, PA, (03/15/01) – The St. Joseph's (2-9-1) baseball team led early, 2-0, but Villanova rallied late to force a 2-2 tie in a game that was stopped after nine innings due to inclement weather. SJU received strong efforts on the mound from the trio of Doug Sieger, John Kokol and Mike Minerva. Sieger, who got the suprise start because Minerva was late for the game, hurled 6.1 innings allowing just one earned run. He walked 3 and struck out 2. Both Kokol and Minerva threw a scoreless 1.1 inning each in relief. At the plate, Kevin Kirkby and Tim Gunn added two hits and an RBI each for SJU. Gunn also tagged a solo home run, his first of the season.
