Monitoring of Academic Progress Academic Meetings with At Risk Student-Athletes Tutoring Referral Academic Advising Study Hall Personal Counseling Laptops Monitoring of Academic Progress Monitoring the academic progress of all student-athletes is part of the responsibility of the Office of Academic Services for Student-athletes. To be most effective in this task, progress reports are emailed twice a semester to the professors of all freshmen student-athletes and those with cumulative GPA's under 2.5. The progress reports provide a brief pointed report of each student-athlete's attendance, attitude, participation and academic progress in the classroom. Student-Athletes who receive poor progress reports are required to meet with their academic advisor in order to formulate a plan to improve their academic performance. Progress reports are forwarded to head coaches in order for them to assist student-athletes in maintaining good academic progress. Academic Meetings With At Risk Student-Athletes In order to monitor the academic progress of student-athletes who are at risk of becoming ineligible academically, the Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes mandates weekly meetings with these student-athletes to track their academic progress. These meetings allow student-athletes to set semester specific goals, and give the academic advisor the opportunity to assist student-athletes in developing strategies for achieving their goals, and developing positive strategies for future semesters. Tutoring is available for all student-athletes. The Office of Academic services for Student-Athletes, in conjunction with the Learning Resource Center (LRC) on campus, can provide individual peer tutors in each subject area. SI sessions serve as regularly scheduled study groups in which students can review notes, discuss readings, develop study strategies, and prepare for examinations.
