Dec. 7, 2005 PHILADELPHIA - On Sunday, December 4 2005, Saint Joseph's University's chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu inducted outstanding juniors and seniors into the Jesuit Honor Society. Two Hawk athletes, men's basketball's Chet Stachitas and women's lacrosse goalkeeper Sarah Magan were among those esteemed students.
Alpha Sigma Nu allows only four percent of the students in the junior and senior classes to be nominated for induction. These students must be within the top 15 percent of their class, hold a 3.5 grade point average and have an exemplary record of three qualities important to the Honors Society: scholarship, loyalty and service. Each student who is nominated must submit an application as well as resume and essay. If selected among those who applied, they then move on and go through a final interview with the Honor Society's officers and advisor. Stachitas is a senior marketing major who plays on the Men's Basketball team. He currently is the team's leading scorer and has led the Hawks to a 4-1 start on the season. Besides being a standout on the court, Stachitas was an orientation leader at the University. Magan is a junior on the women's lacrosse team from Pittsburgh. As a backup goalkeeper last year, she helped the Hawks to a 5-10 record. For the 2006 season, she is a probable starter in the net as the team looks to be a strong force on the field. |
