Last Update: May 8, 2009 As the Fieldhouse Expansion and Renovation project continues to take shape, a new photo gallery updating the progress is posted. The newly minted basketball center has started to become occupied as both teams have moved in as well as the athletic communications office. The Thomas J. Wynne '63 Hall of Fame Room hosted its first event on May 7 for Board of Trustees members, the same day that the William A. Conway '43 Lobby was introduced. The first glimpse of the new basketball center is seen over a month before official move in, which took place on April 18. Both teams moved in that day as did the Athletic Communications office from their space in Barry Hall. The addition to the Fieldhouse on 54th Street is completely closed in as bricklaying nearly completed. The roof is done and work on the interior has begun in earnest. Additionally, windows have started to be installed in the front of the expansion. The steelwork on the expansion portion closest to 54th and Overbrook began on October 1. The practice courts, which both basketball teams will utilize in the coming months were completed before Labor Day. The beautiful courts will serve the teams as their primary practice facility this season as well as provide additional practice space in the future. The northeastern wall which used to house the student section has been demolished while the Expansion, the future home to SJU's basketball programs, has its wall erected during late July and early August, while other work inside and out has continued. Demolition work started on January 9, 2008 and work on the Fieldhouse renovation continues. Two houses, Flanigan Hall and the Barry Hall Annex were brought down in January. Two galleries from January 9 and 10 where construction crews started the very beginning of the expansion and renovation project. The third gallery is of the recent work done on the expansion for the new basketball facility and a couple photos of work beginning inside the Fieldhouse. A fourth gallery has been added of the new work taking place on the east stairwell, work on Barry Hall and the site itself. The fifth gallery reveals the extended work on the site including the removal of trees. In March, builders started laying the foundation to the expansion of the new basketball facility that will be adjacent to the Fieldhouse. That project is well along as construction work to take down the stair tower on the east side began April 9th and photos from April 10th are included. Below are photo galleries from the beginning of construction in January to the current state in April. After that another gallery has been added to include preparation for the final event--St. Joseph's Prep Graduation (June 1) inside the Fieldhouse. The concrete foundation was laid on Friday June 6, while the steel for the building was delivered on June 9. Steel was erected on June 10 and was completed the following week. Work on the rest of the building continued throughout June as well as outside of the facility. Recent galleries added on July 3, 2008 show the continued progress of the project during the summer.
