HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Saint Joseph's softball team split its final two games of the JMU Invitational on Sunday as the Hawks opened with a 7-3 victory over Binghamton, but dropped game two to Rutgers, 8-4.

Versus the Bearcats, Saint Joseph's jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the second and two more in the third.

Taryn Grober drove home Molly Kapala for the first run of the game in the top of the second to make it 1-0. Caela Abadie scored the second run on a fielder's choice, while Grober scored on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt to extend the lead to three.

Grober would push SJU's lead to 5-0 the next inning with a two-run home run to left field.

Saint Joseph's opened a 6-0 lead in the fifth as Sarah Ostaszewski scored from third on another Binghamton error during a stolen base attempt.

The Bearcats got three runs back in the sixth, but Ostaszewski added an insurance run in the seventh with a solo home run to seal the victory.

In the circle, Ashley Ventura picked up the win after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on five hits to improve to 6-8. Amanda Herr tossed 1.2 innings of relief and allowed just one hit.

In the nightcap, Kapala gave SJU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single that scored Carly Rybinski.

Rutgers answered in the top of the second as Katie Wingert connected on a grand slam to make it 4-1.

Saint Joseph's battled back though to tie it at 4-4 with two runs in the third and another in the fourth. Amanda Kulp scored on an RBI single by Kapala, while Ostaszewski made it 4-3 as she scored off a sacrifice fly by Caela Abadie. A double by Ashley Hession tied the game as Jancarla Herrera scored in the bottom of the fourth.
