PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s senior guard Shavar Newkirk has been cleared to return to practice with limited minutes and is progressing towards a full return, after missing all but 12 games of the 2016-17 season with a torn ACL.

Newkirk was the Hawks’ top scorer at that time last season, averaging a career-best 20.3 points per game before suffering the injury in a win over George Washington on December 30. He had scored double figures in all 12 contests, including a career-high 28 points in the 2016-17 season opener against Toledo.

Saint Joseph’s opens the 2017-18 season on Saturday, November 11 at Toledo.
