LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior captain Elaine Estes met ECAC qualification in the rigorous 10,000m to lead the Saint Joseph's women's track and field distance runners at the Bucknell Bison Invitational, held at Bucknell's Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.
Estes ran the fastest 10,000m race of her career in a time of 37:08.10 for 32nd in a field of 42; the time stands as an improved PR by over one minute and 17 seconds and meets ECAC qualification by over 32 seconds.
Senior captain Lindsey Oremus cruised to a new collegiate-best time in the 1500m (4:36.97 PR), an improvement on her previous PR in the event by nearly 10 entire seconds, for 45th in a field of 61 while classmate Lucy Harmon went 4:38.33.
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's track and field squad turned in a sixth-place team showing in a field of 17 teams at the Rider Invitational, held at Rider University's Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks totaled 60 points on the day.
The Hawks earned first-place finishes in both the 4x100m relay and 4x800m relay; junior Aliyah Stokes, junior captain Caroline Duffy, senior captain Kelly Liebl, and senior captain Nathaniela Bourdeau went for an ECAC-qualifying time of 47.33 in the 4x1 while junior Monica Higgins, sophomore Claire Podles, senior Sara Rankin, and junior Maggie Maguire recorded a 4x8 time of 9:58.34. Those two relays took home 20 combined points for the Crimson and Gray.
Stokes also turned in a combined seven points out of the sprint events as she placed fifth in a field of 52 in the 100m (12.44) and sixth in a field of 55 in the 200m (25.69).
Junior Joanna DeSousa earned eight points with a second-place showing in the 3000m steeplechase (12:22.53 PR)
Saint Joseph's returns to action next weekend at both the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium in Princeton, N.J. and the Widener Invitational at Widener's Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester, Pa. Both meets are set to run from Friday, April 19 through Saturday, April 20.
