PHILADELPHIA - The 2007-08 season began today for Saint Joseph's as the Hawks' field hockey team held its first practice on Finnesey Field. Both Saint Joseph's men's and women's soccer teams will begin practice on Wednesday, August 15.
Returning 16 letterwinners, including six starters from last year's team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 title game, the Hawks' field hockey team is poised again to challenge for the conference championship. Saint Joseph opens its season on the road with games at Hofstra (August 29 at 3 p.m.) and Fairfield (September 1 at 2:30 p.m.) before returning home to host Penn on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
Opening its 50th season of competition, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team kicks off the year at the Coastal Carolina Tournament, August 31 versus Furman and September 2 against host Coastal Carolina. The Hawks open the home portion of their schedule Monday, September 15 when they host Rider at 7 p.m.
Under the direction of head coach Jess Reynolds, the 2007 Saint Joseph's women's soccer team will combine a mixture of experienced veterans and talented newcomers. Opening the season at home versus Drexel on Friday, August 31 (7 p.m.), the Hawks are striving to return to the Atlantic 10 postseason, after falling short in 2006 by only six points.
A favorite host among the Atlantic 10 Conference, Saint Joseph's will again be the place to be this fall as Hawk Hill will play host to the 2007 A-10 Field Hockey Championships (November 2-3) and the 2007 A-10 Cross Country Championship (October 27).
