LINKSTERS FINISH FOURTH AT BIG FIVE CLASSIC

PHILADELPHIA (10/20/02) - Freshman Billy Stewart shot a 78 on day one and rallied with a 74 on day two, finishing with a two-round total of 156, to place fourth overall at the Big Five Classic. As a team, five of six Hawks placed in the top 20, helping the Saint Joseph's golf team to a fourth place team finish in the event which was played at Philadelphia's Wissahickon Golf Club. Stewart, who has been SJU's top finisher in four out of five fall events, stood in 15th place after one round of play. His 74 on the second day, however, wasa just two behind individual medalist Ched perman of Penn. In addition to Stewart, the Hawks received steady play from senior Mike Bosica (79, 77) and juniors Brian McDermott (78, 78) and Tom Spanno (76, 80). All three shot identical scores of 156 to tie for 14th place. Freshman Sean Seese (77, 80) also played well for SJU, finishing just a stroke behind his three teammates and tying for 19th overall. Rounding out the six man contingent for St. Joe's was junior Bill Devlin (85, 80 - 165), who placed 32nd. Lehigh and Penn were tied at the end of regulation (612) forcing a tiebreaker to determine the team champion. The tiebreaker for the team competition came down to the matching of the cards, which Lehigh won with a round of 81 from their fifth player on day one. The final team standings (two-round totals):
