PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's University women's lacrosse team (5-6) downed Lafayette (0-14), 14-6, Tuesday night on Finnesey Field. Three separate Hawks scored hat tricks in the contest to lead the Crimson and Gray charge.
The Hawks' offense got off to a quick start on Jessica Westlake's goal at 28:32 in the first half and continued to perform well throughout the game. Westlake's goal sparked a 3-0 Hawk run to start the period. Lafayette answered SJU's attack with two successive goals by Kristin Ruminksi and Kelley Dodds, both assisted by Maddy Booth. Keyed by Christina Colangelo's three first-half goals the Hawks held a 7-3 lead going into the break.
Saint Joseph's opened the second frame with a five-goal run that featured two goals apiece by Ashley Brennan and Westlake. Even though Lafayette scored three goals in the half, the Hawks' offense continued to dominate and finished the game with 14 goals on 25 shots.
Hawk's goalkeeper Suzy Herlihy had eight saves and notched her fifth win of the season. Junior Lindsey-Kate McCool had a season-high four assists. Hawk players Colangelo, Westlake, and Brennan each notched hat tricks, while McCool, Jenna Martino, Abby Renninger, and Colleen Ingelsby each recorded a goal towards SJU's total. Karen Wiley and Kristina Jaggers left the game due to injury.
