PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team capped its 2007 season Saturday evening as the Hawks and Temple Owls played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Finnesey Field. Saint Joseph's honored its four seniors - Kelly Galen, Kristie-Anne Hoban, Jen Kuhn and Shannon Osborn - in a ceremony prior to the game.
Both teams played safely in the opening half tallying three shots total, with Kuhn and Temple goalkeeper Kara Williams each making a save.
Temple's best scoring chance came in the 76th minute. After an Owl corner kick was deflected away from SJU's net, Temple's Carly Metzger lifted a shot from 20 yards out towards the left corner. Thankfully for the Hawks, sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bastianelli played the ball perfectly to make the save.
Despite being outshot 7-3 in the second half, the Hawks kept the game scoreless after 90 minutes to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, Saint Joseph's had two opportunities to end the game, but Temple made key stops to preserve the tie.
The Hawks' first opportunity came in the 109th minute as Osborn corralled a long pass deep into the Owls' zone. As she reached the ball, Williams came out and dove to deflect Osborn's shot.
With less than a minute remaining, Saint Joseph's had three consecutive shots from inside Temple's box, but all three were blocked and the ball was cleared to preserve the tie.
For the game, Saint Joseph's outshot Temple 13-11, with both teams collecting six corner kicks. Saint Joseph's finished the season 3-15-1 overall and 1-9-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple capped the year at 5-10-4 and 1-8-2 in conference play.
Individually, Osborn led the Hawks with three shots, while Galen, and juniors Laura Adams and Allie Dowling each collected two shots. Between the pipes, Bastianelli made three saves over the final 65 minutes, earning SJU's record for saves in a season, posting 138.
