PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's junior righthander Kyle Mullen and senior first baseman Kevin Taylor were honored by the Atlantic 10 and the Big 5 on Monday for their performances in last week's games. Mullen swept the A-10 and Big 5 Pitcher of the Week awards, while Taylor took home Big 5 Player of the Week honors.

Mullen dazzled once again for the Hawks, tossing a complete game shutout in the series opener against Massachusetts on Friday, marking the third shutout of his career. The Berwyn, Pa., native needed just 84 pitches to dispatch the then-first place Minutemen, facing only two batters over the minimum, and did not allow a runner past second base.

During the outing, Mullen allowed five hits and one walk while fanning six. Dating back to last season, SJU has won eight consecutive Atlantic 10 conference series openers; seven of them have been started by Mullen. The Hawks are 9-2 in Atlantic 10 play over the last two seasons when Mullen starts.

Taylor continued his recent upward trend, following up last week's Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award with the Big 5 Player of the Week award this week. The senior from Catonsville, Md., hit at a .500 clip in conference play as the Hawks extended their winning streak to seven games before Sunday's loss. His 3-for-4, three-run performance on Saturday powered the Hawks to an 11-5 win to clinch the weekend set with UMass, as his three-run home run in the third inning opened the scoring and gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Taylor drove in a fourth run in the game as the Hawks won their seventh straight.

Taylor finished the week with seven RBI, driving in at least one run in all four games SJU played, and posted a .625 slugging percentage for the week.

Mullen's honor is the second consecutive Big 5 Pitcher of the Week award for the Hawks, as Alex Pracher earned the accolade last week for his performance at Saint Louis.

Before heading to Charlotte for a critical conference series this weekend, the Hawks will face off with Penn at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night in the championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic. Both teams are in search of their first Liberty Bell crown. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $5 at the First Base Gate at Citizens Bank Park, and free parking is available in Phillies Lot P.
